This past Monday, 3 days ago, was the last day of the “Strict Diet” portion of the Dr. Bernstein Diet for me. I think I could lose another 5-10 pounds of fat but I am going to do it through exercise now. As of last night I have lost 52 pounds, which puts me at 177 pounds.
Now that I have started on the maintenance program there are some changes to my portions. I still basically eat the same foods except that I can eat unlimited vegetables and 10 ounces of protein a day now. On the strict diet I could only eat 16 ounces of vegetables and 7 ounces of protein a day. My bread product intake stays the same (4 melba toast a day) and my fruit intake decreases to 1 piece a day.
Anyways, just thought I would throw out an update.
Good luck to everyone on the diet!

Hi! Thanks for posting on your success. I started DrB’s when I was 200 pds and got down to 143pds. I thought I could maintance on my own so I never finished, that was almost 3 years ago. I started again 2 weeks ago after gaining back 20pds.
I had tried different diets, like weight watchers, etc. but I had no results. I gained the weight back by not paying attention to my eating and not exercising. The clinic I am at in Calgary encourages me to exercise and has been wonderful in keeping my enthusiam and energy up. I look forward to reading how you continue with maintance. All the best,
Helen
